WMIF MAIN SITEDr. M. Furkan Burak is an endocrinologist and faculty member at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, where he leads the Translational Immunometabolism Research Group. He is also a basic science researcher in the Department of Molecular Metabolism at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (HSPH). His research focuses on the role of adipose tissue-derived molecules in obesity and the development of new therapeutic strategies for obesity-related immunometabolic diseases, such as diabetes, fatty liver disease, and asthma.
Dr. Burak has made significant contributions to the fields of obesity and immunometabolism, with high-impact publications in journals such as Science Translational Medicine, JCEM, Cell Metabolism, Nature Drug Discovery, and Nature Endocrinology. He has authored a book chapter on “Drug Mechanisms of Action in Obesity” and holds licensed U.S. patents in the obesity field. He has received numerous prestigious awards.
Dr. Burak is triple board-certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism (ABIM), and Obesity Medicine (ABOM). His clinical practice focuses on obesity, diabetes, and immunometabolism. Dr. Burak teaches bedside medical innovation at Harvard Medical School and MIT’s Health, Science, and Technology Program. He is chair of the inaugural Obesity Group of the Endocrine Society and serves as the obesity section editor for the Journal of Endocrine Society. He was named one of America’s “Top Doctors” by Castle Connolly and Boston Magazine in three consecutive years (2023,2024,2025).
