WMIF MAIN SITEDr. Andrew Wellman is Professor of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School. He is interested in the pathophysiology of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and has developed methods for endotyping patients with this disorder. Through a better understanding of OSA endotypes, Dr. Wellman hopes to develop alternative treatments for the many patients who cannot tolerate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), including pharmaceutical approaches. Recent positive results from his lab testing atomoxetine and oxybutynin led to the formation of a company, Apnimed, Inc., to develop these drugs. In addition to publishing over 100 original research papers, Dr. Wellman has presented his research findings on five continents and written chapters for premier textbooks in the field, such as Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine and Principles and Practice of Sleep Medicine.
