WMIF MAIN SITEJonathan Rosand, MD, MSc, is a physician-scientist and visionary leader in brain health innovation. He serves as a vascular and critical care neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, and Associate Member of the Broad Institute. Over the past two decades, Dr. Rosand has built a track record of launching high-impact initiatives that bridge science, medicine, and entrepreneurship to tackle some of the most urgent challenges in brain disease.
Dr. Rosand’s research program has been at the forefront of using high-throughput genetics, neuroimaging, and population-scale data to decode the causes of stroke and other brain conditions. He founded the International Stroke Genetics Consortium, now a global hub for collaborative stroke research, and created the Cerebrovascular Disease Knowledge Portal to drive innovation through open data sharing.
At Mass General, he also founded and scaled the Division of Neurocritical Care into one of the top programs in the world. Recognizing that prevention is the next frontier, he co-founded the McCance Center for Brain Health, a first-of-its-kind center integrating data science, clinical care, and public health to optimize brain performance and resilience across the lifespan.
In 2023, Dr. Rosand launched the Global Brain Care Coalition (GBCC)—a bold, entrepreneurial response to the global rise of dementia, stroke, and depression. The GBCC brings together academic leaders, philanthropists, private-sector partners, and governments in a global learning health network focused on measurable, scalable outcomes. Its target: reduce new cases of brain disease by 10% within 10 years and by 30% by 2050.
At the heart of this movement is the McCance Center’s Brain Care Score, a validated, actionable tool for measuring and improving brain health—providing a platform for innovation in digital health, consumer engagement, AI-driven diagnostics, and personalized prevention.
Dr. Rosand and his colleagues are building not only a scientific framework, but also a market opportunity: the chance to transform how societies value, measure, and invest in brain health. With ~40% of dementia, ~60% of stroke, and ~35% of depression preventable through modifiable risk factors, the GBCC is poised to drive a shift from reactive care to proactive, data-driven solutions.\
For entrepreneurial partners, the GBCC offers a unique opportunity to co-create the future of brain health—through products, platforms, and partnerships that deliver both social impact and economic value on a global scale.
