WMIF MAIN SITEDr. Steven Grinspoon is a Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School, Chief of the MGH Metabolism Unit, and Director of the Nutrition Obesity Research Center at Harvard. He has had a long-standing interest in the metabolic syndrome, obesity, ectopic adipose tissue and related inflammatory complications. His work has suggested significant cardiovascular disease, residual immune activation, and metabolic complications in people with lipodystrophy and ectopic and visceral adipose tissue. Based on this work, he developed a novel FDA-approved drug for lipodystrophy, tesamorelin, a growth hormone releasing hormone analogue, which has also been shown to selectively reduce visceral fat, spare subcutaneous fat, reduce liver fat and increase muscle mass. For his work, Dr. Grinspoon was awarded the 2016 Aurbach Laureate award in translational research from the Endocrine Society. Dr. Grinspoon is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation and the Association of American Physicians.
